Two years of SDA! - 7:10 AM
April 12th 1998 was when SDA officially opened here on planetquake... And to
celebrate the occaision, we have some demos! Hmm, that's nothing out of the
ordinary is it? At least not anymore, there for a while it unfortunatly was,
as sda was down for a while and we had some rather slow points before that too.
But we seem to be back pretty strong as we're getting about five demos sent in
per day! Keep it up :)
There are of course demos from Blue hell...
- Marlo did the two easy marathons! He got 0:48
for the run and 1:19
for the 100%.
- Stefan has filled the last single level hole, getting 0:42
for the nightmare run of jzblue_1.
- Peter and his brother did two eay run coop demos... they got 0:09
on jzblue_2 and 0:05
for jzblue_4, which includes a never before seen (?) trick.
Thomas Stubgaard keeps improving the id 100% demos:
- He improved his nightmare 100% of e3m4 by one more second to get 1:31.
- He added to the fight over easy 100% of e3m6 by improving Daniel's recent
time by one second to get 2:39.
Jozsef Szalontai has improved Optic's nightmare 100% of
Earthworld by 23 seconds to get
1:47.
I was trying to add a new table feature worked on by Matthias and Stefan
but in the process I broke the tables and dont know why..... No mkt.pl pages
are currently working... hopefully it will be fixed soon.
7:40 AM Update: Hey I got it working again.... not sure how though :)
Anyway the new features are avaiable on the main mkt.pl page at the bottom,
there are pages that compare all the players to each other. For example you
can see that the six player's with the most records are Optic with 238, Ilkka
with 163, then Marlo, Fabian, Matthias and me. There are also pages to sum
up demo stats and map stats... you can also see that I hold 21 out of the 25
oldest records :) Thanks to Matthias for the idea.

Invasion of Marlo - 6:00 AM
Marlo Galinski has taken over the Blue Hell tables... he now has eight records!
Before going farther,
here
is a zip that contains all the current records on jzblue.
- jzblue_1: Marlo got 0:12
for the easy run, a one second improvment; 0:20
for the easy 100%, another one second improvment; and 0:14
for the nightmare run (yep, it's one second better). Still no nightmare 100%
on this level...
- jzblue_2: First, I must apologize to Robert Axelsson for forgetting his
0:12
for an easy run on this level..... but Marlo managed an 0:11...
He also improved Kimmo's easy 100% by two seconds to get 0:17,
and Robert's nightmare run by one second to get 0:12.
- jzblue_3: Marlo improved the easy 100% by three seconds to get 0:19
and the nightmare 100% by three seconds as well to get 0:38
Daniel Magnusson has taken back his record of e3m6 easy 100% by improving
Thomas' record by seven seconds to get
2:40
Hey I finally got one of my demos up to par! I have improved my easy run
of r2m1 by an amazing 50 seconds! The new time is 2:14.
Monday, April 10th by Nolan
Even more Blue demos - 3:15 AM
Even more demos on Blue Hell for this update:
- jzblue_1: Kimmo sent in a 0:14
for the easy run, but then Robert got a 0:13,
a total of two seconds better. Robert also improved the easy 100% by four seconds
and got 0:21.
- jzblue_2: Justin sent in 0:14
for the easy run, but then Kimmo got a 0:13,
a total of two seconds better (not to be confused with jzblue_1). Kimmo also
got 0:19
for the easy 100% and 0:31
for the nightmare 100%.
- jzblue_3: Robert did the easy 100% in 0:22.
- jzblue_4: Robert got 0:16
for the nightmare 100% (should have been mentioned last time).
Ravage improved Optic's easy run of tspe by one more second to get
0:25.
Markus Taipale filled the hole in mcomplex, he did the nightmare run in
0:50.
(the time for easy run is 0:43
by him).
Misplaced demos
Piguminati sent me two improvements to The Ruiner's Revulsion
back on the 22nd but I forgot to post them... apologies to him. He improved
Mr Shambler's easy run by four seconds to get 0:22
and Mr Shambler's nightmare run by five seconds to get 0:22
there as well.
Still no demos from me :(
Sunday, April 9th by Nolan
Lots of Blue demos - 7:48 AM
As I expected we got a bunch of demos for
Blue Hell, but
it seems as though the runners were communicating with each other because there
weren't many duplicate entries and the ones that were, were faster than anything previously
sent in... Nobody did any marathons through it though, hint hint. To make it
easier for everybody, I put a zip with all current records on jzblue
here,
but I will go over things one map at a time:
- jzblue_1: New player Justin Redmond got 0:15
for the easy run, a one second improvment, and 0:25
for the easy 100%. Robert Axelsson got 0:15
for the nightmare run.
- jzblue_2: Justin Redmond got 0:15
for the easy run (one second improvement), but Robert Axelesson was faster on his nightmare run, getting 0:13.
- jzblue_3: Kimmo Polvivaara improved Mr Shambler's easy run by one second to get 0:05.
I think 4 seconds should be possible with mad bunnying... who wants to prove me right?
Robert Axelsson got 0:05
for the nightmare run and 0:41
for the nightmare 100%.
- jzblue_4: We received a 12 and 11 before Piguminati sent in a 0:10
for the easy run (three seconds faster than Mr shambler). Robert Axelsson got 0:14
for the easy 100% and 0:10
for the nightmare run.
Non-blue demos
The only submission for the new level, The Griding of Teeth, were improvements
to Mr Shambler's easy run. First we got a 29, then a 28, but Optic got the
fastest at 0:26. (five seconds faster)
Optic also improved both runs of r2m5, he got 1:21, six
seconds faster, and 1:32, 15 seconds faster.
Marlo improved Optic's recent easy 100% of The
Soul Grinder by ten seconds to get 2:15.
Peter and his brother did another coop run, this time improving Ilkka and
Juho-Jussi's easy run of e2m5 by one second to get 0:22.
There ought to be about 4 demos from me for this update but I keep screwing
things up and I haven't got them to my satisfaction yet.... it's very annoying.
Hopefully it will be worth it....

Run of the Week shenanigans - 7:05 PM
Run of the Week results are up, as is the new contest. That is all....Over and out.
Friday, April 7th by Nolan
New Levels! - 6:10 AM
Yes it's true, we're finally adding a few more levels here at SDA. But they
all actually already have demos because "Smabler" did some easy runs for some of them,
but they should be improvable. The new maps are:
- The Grinding of Teeth by Rudolf Kremers.
Mr Shambler did an easy run in 0:31 back in December on his site.
- The Mining Complex by Ilkka.
He made this map for a contest at mineral's back in November.
The wining demos from that contest have been added to the tables, find them here.
- Blue Hell by Jason Zukowski. This is a set
of four small levels... Mr shambler had easy runs of them all but everything
else is wide open for them. You can also record a marathon through the episode,
but please read the sda_notice file in the zip first!

Shut Up and Dance - 11:40 PM
What is the world coming to? A big record comes on, and what does everyone do? Jump up and down and scream. Depressing isn't it.
Dance, people! Stop acting like tranced-up gibbons! Anyway, this update is
40 minutes late thanks to PQ FTP, and I'm not a happy bunny(hop). Oh well....
Thomas Stubgaard improves Daniel Magnusson's easy 100% of E3M6 by 5 seconds to get 2:47.
Optic fills up the tables with a nightmare run of Scoop in 1:44.
Smabler (as I'm told he likes to be known), of TEAMSmabler did a great run of Pingu's latest, A3. So give it a look. Hopefully there will be a level-related
surprise for you lot later on tonight.
Run of the Week #2
I'm sure you're all aware it's over. Results and contest #3 up tomorrow.

Shut Up and Drive - 5:45 AM
Justin Fleck reminds us of his old speed running days by sending in yet another custom run. This time he fills the Nightmare run of
Village with a time of
2:16.
Obviously the speed running genes are in Peter's family! His 14-year old brother Mortel (and Peter) pimped up Ilkka & Juho's E4M5 Easy coop by 1 second to get 0:11. What's next? Peter's grandma Glatis?
Also, if you haven't picked up Soldier of Fortune yet I highly recommend you do so! It's not exactly Half-Life when it comes to the story line, but the action is incredible!

Table filling continues - 7:40 PM
Five table filling demos in this update, they're still worth checking out, along
with the improvements.
Optic made the following:
Ilkka filled up two more holes in the zer tables and improved one. BTW if any of you people have not checked out
Zerstörer, you really should :) And then check out these demos as Ilkka told me to "p1mp them good :)".
- Easy run of zer3 in 2:19, 27 seconds faster than Mattias' previous record.
- Easy 100% of zer5 in 3:40.
- Nightmare 100% of zer5 in 3:55.
Robert Axelsson has once again improved the nightmare run of e2m5. This time by two seconds
to get
0:39.
I never thought this level would be done this fast on nightmare since it sat
with my old 1:00 as the record forever.
New levels are getting closer to reality.... I've decided what the first
few will be at least. BTW those of us who update SDA have agreed to use Central
European time for our time stamps as previously we'd been using our own timezone
but then I could do an update 4 hours after Will and it looks like it came before...
see April 1st :)

Dissolution over eternal holes in the tables - 7:45 PM
There are some holes in the DoE tables that have been there for quite a while, but
I decided to try to fill some of them. So far I've only done a nightmare run
of r2m6 in
3:16
(easy run time is 2:36 by me).
Notice: If you downloaded the recently posted update to DoEstats you
need to download again as it had a bug related to one of it's bugfixes... So
get it
again. The old file might still be on mirrors so make sure what you get says
v1.61 when you exit a level.
Thomas sent in another new nightmare 100% demo: he improved his recent e3m4 demo
by another six seconds and got 1:32.
Saturday, April 1st by Will
Demos as far as the eye can see - 8:30 PM
After the rash of updates about RotW, it's nice to have a good, chunky demo-filled update, wouldn't you say?
We kick off with some id maps:
Peter Horvath does a nice demo: easy 100% of E1M4 in 01:04 updated 01/04. Nine seconds faster than Robert's recent demo.
Mr Axelsson has not been idle either, reclaiming his nightmare run of E2M5 from Ingmar with a 0:41 demo.
Finally, Attila and Peter improve Gunnar and Nolan's old E1M8 coop run by 4 seconds to get 0:26.
Optical Assault
The hardworking Mr. Fleck does the custom rounds:
- Nighmare 100% of Retinal Tear in 2:38 - filling the tables.
- Nighmare 100% of Colony in 1:42 - filling the tables.
- Nighmare run of Gordian in 2:21 - filling the tables.
And if you haven't done already, check out RotW #2.

Missing Demo - 8:09 PM
Not like anybody cares because Markus owned us all (he's a very shy guy if you ask me, talk to us Markus) but I sent a corrected
dm3_123 on the 29th and I guess Will thought it was the same demo. Congrats to everyone on the first rotw!
Friday, March 31 (2nd update) by Will
Run of the Week results up - 6:00 PM
Phew. The RotW results are up, as is the new contest. I'm too tired to write
anything else. Check it out.

All Mineral update - 10:00 AM
I've been quiet for nearly a month now, as I've had my final exams. But since all the exams
are finally done, I should have more time to spend updating SDA from now on. I thought it
would be a good start to post all my demos :)
These are the single-level demos that I've done lately:
- Easy run of Hip1m4 in 0:54 - yet two seconds faster than my previous demo. Thanks to Attila for the new exit-trick!
- Easy 100% of Endtime in 1:05 - claimed the record back from Marlo, three seconds faster.
- Nightmare run of Zer1m3 in 2:29 - new to the tables. This is 17 secs faster than the current easy record though :)
Then I've also recorded two marathons: (
NOTE! The Marathons are not updated yet, please try again tomorrow)
- Easy run of Hipnotic episode 1 in 2:42 - nine seconds faster than my previous record, only 6 seconds slower than SdSlite!
- Easy 100% of ID episode 1 in 7:49 - 73(!) seconds faster than my previous record, 42 seconds slower than Qd100Qlite.
Not "All Mineral update" after all...
Nolan sent me a demo in which he runs through the masses on monsters in e3m7. Nolan
says e3m7 to be the hardest ID level. His new nightmare run through e3m7 in
1:10
is 61(!) seconds faster than his ancient 486/keyboard demo. Make sure you check it out...
Various stuff
Some other 'news' and stuff to mention:
- Stefan and Nolan have worked out a new feature in the player's tables. Your player's page can now be sorted by mapname/time/date instead of type.
- DoeStats & RDEStats have been updated by Stefan. Nolan has also updated ZerStats to v1.61. The new stats can be downloaded from the QdQ's stats page.
- Finally, remember to check back here later tonight - Will should post the results of the ROTW contest soon.
Thursday, March 30th by Will
Run of the Week deadline - 10:10 PM
Has expired, as I hope you know. So no more demos, please. Results will be up tomorrow in the afternoon some time.
Monday, March 28th by Will
Faster Faster - 8:25 PM
Three demos, two by Nolan on the curiously named 4fiffy3:
- Easy 100% in 2:38, filling the tables.
- Nightmare 100% in 2:53, new as well.
And Ingmar does a great run on an id map:
- Nighmare run of E2M5 in 0:42, getting very lucky at the end =)
Run of the Week
Thanks for the great demos, keep them coming! There are a few surprises already....
Monday, March 27th (2nd update) by Nolan
More demos from Matthias and Thomas - 7:35 PM
Matthias continues to do his usuall filling of the holes in the custom level tables, this time
completely taking over badland2:
- Easy run of badland2 in 2:40, nine seconds faster than Optic.
- Nightmare run in 2:51.
- Easy 100% in 3:08.
- Nightmare 100% in 3:35.
- He also did an easy 100% of coopmine in 2:31.
Thomas continues to do his usual as well...improving 100%s on the id levels:
- Easy 100% of e3m4 in 1:20, five seconds faster than Optic.
- Nightmare 100% of e3m4 in 1:38, ten seconds faster than my old demo.
- Easy 100% of e4m3 in 1:30, four seconds faster than his last demo
Monday, March 27th by Nolan
An update with demos... - 1:35 AM
Matthias Belz sent in a few demos that we missed from the defunct sda-incoming
directory...
- FAB improved both 100%s of con1 by two seconds each to get 0:20 on both
easy and
nightmare.
- Markus improved his nightmare run of e4m7 by two seconds to get 0:55.
And now for recently sent in demos :)
- Robert Axelsson improved Peter's easy 100% of e1m4 by three seconds and got 1:13.
- He also improved Kimmo's nightmare run of rd1m2 by one second and got 0:57.
- Optic improved Matthias' nightmare run of edom by seven seconds (which was
just posetd a few days ago) to get 1:26.
- I filled some more holes in the Zerstorer tables, this time doing 100%s:
Easy 100% of z6 in 2:55, definitely the best of my three demos.
Nightmare 100% of z6 in 3:18.
Easy 100% of z7 in 6:52.
BTW for anybody else who does Zerstorer, I posted a new version of Zerstats (v1.61) on the
QdQstats page because I found a few small bugs and fixed them.

Anthony Bailey interview - 00:58 AM
In their interesting series of interviews,
Machinima.com
have posted a conversation with Anthony Bailey, the 'main man' behind the Quake done Quick team.
Those of you that have spoken to Anthony before won't be surprised that the interview isn't a light-hearted chat about
how cool quad-grenadejumps are :)
It's a very interesting read, as it provides us with a deeper understanding of what keeps Anthony so thrilled by QdQ and
other Machinima-related matters. Here's a snippet about where he gets his inspiration from:
In life, as with anyone, various strands weave together. I've always had a hacker's soul, and open source seems
obvious. Manning telephones for a counselling service opened my eyes to how much people need people. Daniel
Dennett's writing has crystallised many of my background thoughts on complexity and intelligence, and Simon
Reynolds music writing did something similar in encouraging me to intellectualise about things that move
me beyond the point where thinking is important. I like the way that communication technologies like the Net help
show that whilst people en masse are dullards, every individual can be brilliant. Abstract mathematics is the
highest aesthetics. And thinking hard and carefully is a moral duty because it is of the most help in making myself
and the world happier.
Now go check out the whole thing @
Machinima.com.

Run of the Week update - 9:47 PM
Thanks for the entries I've already received, guys, I'm impressed. However, I forgot something important. You're not allowed
to die. Although this is probably common-sense, I just thought I'd make it explicit. Thanks.

Run of the Week - 7:00 PM
Well, it's here at last. Go check out it. This should be a weekly fixture
from now on, assuming all goes well. So give it a go.
New custom levels
Not content with a new weekly contest, we're also about to give you a whole new set of custom levels to run on! Be happy, be very happy.
Friday, March 24th by Will
Matthias belts back - 2:00 AM
Matthias obviously does not value sleep as much as most of us =)
- Nightmare 100% of Azurette in 6:44, new to the tables.
- Nightmare 100% of Comm Center in 3:27, new to the tables.
- Nightmare 100% of Evildead in 3:03, new to the tables as well.
- Nightmare run of Edom in 1:33, a good 23 seconds faster than Justin.
Justin weighs in with two runs:
- Easy run of Climb in 0:33, 2 seconds quicker than his recent run.
- Nightmare run of Climb in 0:32, 7 seconds quicker and a second quicker than easy!
Run of the Week...
...may be making a comeback. It wasn't totally successful last time, but we're trying to
make it more fun this time around. Take part or die! Ahem.
And finally...
Speedrunning tune of the week definately has to be "Jump 'n' run" by Clemen Neufeld - or is that Ilkka Kurkela? =). Go
seek it out!
Thursday, March 23rd by Nolan
The lost demo is found! - 6:30 PM
Hey it turns out that Matthias Belz had a copy of my ancient e2m1 nightmare 100%
in
2:35...
and it was older than I thought, it's dated 14.12.96. Download it for a few
laughs :) It seems ungodly slow compared to any current demo.
In other news, Robert Axelsson was not satisfied with his easy 100% of e3m3.
He improved it by one more second to get 0:56,
but then improved it by two more to get 0:54.
Wednesday, March 22nd by Will
Purple monkey dishwasher - 5:45 PM
Well, you can only come up with so many titles involving the words 'demos' and 'speedrun' before it gets repetitive, eh? =)
Some good demos coming up, so hold onto your proverbial head garments.
id level demos
Robert Axelsson has churned out a couple of good demos for us:
- Nightmare run of E2M5 in 0:49, 4 seconds
faster than Thomas Stubgaard, and equals the ancient QdQr time.
- Easy 100% of E3M3 in 0:57, 3 seconds
faster than Evan's ancient (1998) demo.
Darknite assault
Matthias Belz has his recent Darknite runs savaged by Justin and Marlo:
- Easy 100% of Darknite in 1:51 by Marlo, 23 seconds faster.
- Easy run of Darknite in 1:29 by Justin, 11 seconds faster.
- Nightmare run of Darknite in 1:33 by Marlo, 32 seconds faster.
I'm sure Matthias will exact swift retribution on these two interlopers =)
Finally, Optic improves two of his old demos:
- Easy run of Climb in 0:35 3 seconds faster than before.
- Nightmare run of Earthworld in 1:05 a 15 second 'Verbesserung'.
Till the next update, some time, same place, folks.

UT Speedrun - 11:36 AM
Thankfully not everyone is as short-sighted as most people in the speedrunning community, and sticking to Quake 1 as
if their life depended on it (that would go for erm... me too I guess). The exception is
Shambler, who has once again
found himself another game to show his skills in; this time it's UT's turn to be sped trough.
Obviously it's not just kill-the-bot-as-fast-as-you-can, but proper SP missions Done Quick.
On the subject of
TEAMShambler FPSD&D,
I found the 'irc battles' between mappers Vondur and Excessus very amusing, have a look (one of
them even has a reference to QdQ in it :)
Monday, March 20th by Nolan
Complete update - 1:40 AM
2:08 AM update: you can get all 15 demos from this update
here.
Well this update should include every new demo, even the custom ones... Since
nobody else wanted to/had time to do them I actually downloaded the appropriate
levels and checked them out myself.
Lots of table fillin'
Most of the new demos are filling holes in the tables but there are a few
improvments as well.
Matthias Belz sent in a total of 8 custom demos:
- Easy run of darknite in
1:40, 10 seconds
faster than Optic (A 1:47 was sent in the interim by Cid Soderqvist). Definitely
not a pretty quake level, but it's good for speed running...
- Nightmare run of darknite in 2:05.
- Easy 100% of darknite in 2:14.
- Nightmare 100% of darknite in 3:00.
- Easy 100% of hellbase in
2:16.
- Nightmare 100% of hellbase in 2:13.
- Easy 100% of thetomb in
2:57.
- Nightmare 100% of thetomb in 2:53.
Four new demos from Optic, one is a marathon:
- Easy run of Liquid Despair
in 0:44, two
seconds better than the previous record.
- Nightmare run of Liquid Despair in 0:56, a seven second improvement.
- Easy 100% of Retinal Tear
in 2:14.
- Nightmare marathon run of ep2 in 6:42.
Markus Taipale also did a nightmare marathon run. He did ep4 in
3:53.
Only the nightmare run through ep3 is still blank of the marathon runs on the original levels...
Peter Horvath improves his nightmare 100% of e1m6 by three seconds to get 0:53,
very impressive demo, IMO. Also the same time as the easy 100%.
Finally, I improved my easy run of zer7 by 41 seconds to get 2:49.
(Now 11 seconds faster than the nightmare run).
That should be all the demos.... if anything was missed let me know.
In search of a lost demo
I've been trying to find a copy of my very first quake speed demo.... a nightmare
100% of e2m1 in 2:35 (current time is 1:33), but I haven't been able to find
it anywhere. It was deleted from the original cdrom demos directory before
SDA started... but I'm wondering if anybody might still have it sitting on their
hard drive after more than three years. If so then please send it to me :)
Thursday, March 16th by Nolan
Quick update - 2:20 PM
Quick update to post a few more demos that have come in... still not all of
them though.
Optic filled a few holes in the 100% table for PSE:
- Pse1 nightmare 100% in 3:22.
- Pse2 nightmare 100% in 3:30. He actually sent in a 4:40 the day before...
Martin Selinus improved his easy 100% of e3m2 by another second to get
0:59.
After Thomas Stubgaard improved the nightmare 100% of e4m3, he improved the
easy 100% of it as well. The record for this demo was always held by DooMfienD.
He only improved it by one second though :) Got 1:34.
Robert Axelsson and Alexander Lindgren did another coop demo: easy 100% of
e1m3 in 0:55,
seven seconds faster than the previous record.
Monday, March 13th by Nolan
New demos finally avaialable - 10:00 PM
Just a note that if you've been wondering why you can't get any of the demos
from my last update, it was because cdrom mirroring was down and it seems
GSN didn't know it until I told them... but they got it fixed and all the
recent demos are now on cdrom at least...
Sunday, March 12th by Nolan
Another normal update - 1:30 PM
Ilkka is turning into a slacker and doesn't want to update the custom demos...
actually he's gotten busy with exams so I hope somebody else will update them.
But in the mean time we have more "normal" demos for you...
Marlo improved Optic's easy 100% of e3m1 by one second to get 1:15.
Robert Axelson apparantly likes e1m2 on nightmare:
- He improved Alexiander Osipov's nightmare 100% by three seconds to get 1:12.
- He also improved his nightmare 100% coop with Alexander Lindgren by six seconds to end up with 1:06.
After he missed getting the best time for the easy run of e3m2, Martin Selinus
decided to try the easy 100%. He ended up improving Optic's demo by three seconds to get
1:00.
Thomas did me a favor and improved one of my old keyboard 100% demos, e4m3.
He got 4:08,
a 17 second improvement.
More demos from me!
Woo, more demos from me :)
- I improved my nightmare run of h3m2 by 19 seconds to get 1:45.
- I did a nightmare run of zer5 in 3:06, new. (Time for easy run is 1:28 by Mr. Shambler)
- I also did a nightmare run of zer7 in 3:00, new. The time for my easy
run on this level is currently 3:30.... I think that could use some improvement.
That's all for now, I suppose if nobody else wants to update custom demos, I'll
have to do it to keep everyone happy ....

A few good demos - 2:35 AM
A total of five demos for this update. They all have their reason to be watched,
weather its l33t skillz or humor value... There are custom level demos that have
been sent in, but I leave those to Ilkka :)
Markus does two demos:
- He improved Kimmo's easy run of e3m4 by one second to get 0:37.
- He improved Shine's already amazing easy marathon through episode one by eight seconds to get 2:36. Here's some of those l33t skillz.
Marlo decided to fill a hole in the marathon table. He did a nightmare 100%
of all of episode 4 in
26:36. Here's some of the
humor value.... btw marlo promises a better demo soon.
Robbert Alexsson & Alexander Lindgren did a coop nightmare 100% of e1m2, new to
the tables, in 1:12,
which is three seconds faster than the single player record.
I improved another of my ancient keyboard hipnotic demos. This time I went
for h1m3. I knew it would be difficult but it turned out to be quite a nightmare.
The end result was a 36 second improvement! The old time was 2:51 and the new time is
2:15.
There's more of those l33t skillz in here :)

RDE site updated - 12:32 PM
Party time, a new shipment of RDE demos is up at the
Runner's Delight page!
This time, there's more speed involved than ever, with exceptionally nice demos, including the first 'Easy-run-of-all-of-RDE'-marathon.
Head over there, and remember to keep those demos coming.

Another 100% from me - 2:45 AM
Just a quick update to post my newest demo. I improved my nightmare 100%
of h1m4 by 25 seconds to get
2:15.
Only 24 more keyboard demos left to improve....

A Run Unlike Any Other - 6:32 PM
Custom & Original Level Improvements:
Marlo Galinski is up to his usual gassyness.
- Endtime Easy 100% in 1:08 1 second faster than Ilkka.
- Fire Easy 100% in 1:16 11 seconds faster than Matthias
Justin Fleck improved Marlo's Easy run of Earthworld by 1 second to get
0:59.
Attila Csernyik reclaims his Nightmare E3M2 run from Martin by 1 second to get 0:18.
Cooperative Improvement:
Cameron and I optimize like we've never before!
- Easy 100% of Mexx9a in a blisteringly fast 23:25. Now the longest demo time ever, beat that Nolan.
I've added the
old news page. This page will only hold about 20 updates (so it doesn't exceed notepad size) so save the updates that fit your fancy before they're removed.
Also, please send all marathon runs to Jesse. The rest of the team doesn't have patience (or the connection) to receive 9 meg demos. Thanks, it's only common sense we're asking some of you to use.

Quick Optic update - 10:00 PM
Just a small update to keep things rolling, and so that I can try out the new updating system. Optic does two demos:
- Easy run of Earthworld in 1:02 - two seconds faster than Joszef.
- Easy 100% of Colony in 1:34 - new to the tables.
Hopefully no problems there. More news on new custom levels coming soon!

All sorts of demos - 10:00 PM
Another update, this time with quite a lot of demos - 16 in total. Some of them are really cool, so make sure you don't miss them!
Classic ID Singleplayer demos
Alright, I'll start with two ID records that I've recorded a couple of days ago:
- Easy 100% of E1M5 in 0:55 - two seconds faster than Optic, and also two seconds faster than Qd100Ql. Lots of action here with Quadded-RJs.
- Easy 100% of E4M4 in 2:04 - 10 seconds faster than Thomas Stubgaard's newish demo. Six seconds faster than Qd100Ql.
Custom map Singleplayer demos
Alexander has done a new custom map demo:
- Easy 100% of Compugib in 0:37 - two seconds faster than Optic.
Justin
'in the running m00d' Fleck has improved a custom level record also:
- Easy 100% of The Dwell in 1:26 - 11 seconds faster than Marlo. We're talking about Optic of course :)
Jozsef Szalontai has improved a custom demo:
- Easy run of Earthworld in 1:04 - 15 seconds faster than Optic.
Two ID Marathons
Shine shows his skillz again:
- Nightmare run of Episode 1 in 3:50 - 41(!) seconds faster than Peter. It's not too often when Peter's record gets beaten by 41 seconds...
Ravage proves his marathon running skillz too:
- Easy run of Episode 2 in 4:03 - one second faster than Shine's newish record.
Custom level Cooperative action by Johan & Carl
We've got nine co-op tablefillers from Johan Nilsson and Carl Tholin. Here they go:
- Nightmare 100% of Beach (everyone's favorite map) in 0:23 - new.
- Easy 100% of Beach in 0:25 - new.
- Easy run of Bub2 in 0:13 - new.
- Easy run of Colony in 0:31 - new.
- Easy 100% of Colony in 1:18 - new.
- Easy run of Guardhouse in 0:24 - new.
- Easy run of Eye Socket in 0:56 - new.
- Easy 100% of Eye Socket in 1:23 - new.
- Easy run of Houstrps in 0:30 - new.
That's all for now. Speed Demos Archive is truly working again the way it should: we've posted total 72(!) new demos since the reopening (20th Feb)... The action is really good now, keep it up and get running!

A few notices - 5:50 PM
Just a note about modified Quake exes. I think it's great that the source to
Quake was released but for now I think it would be best if you only recorded
demos with the original id exe files that you always used. I hope noone would
make an exe that would allow them to cheat and use it, but other groups may
change something in that game that would affect us. So for now please keep
using the id exes to record. In the near future I may provide new exes that
you could use for demo recording with select new features in it....
Mineral has posted the results to his latest contest. The competition was
tight with one category being won by a mere hundredth of a second! Check
out the results at Minerals.

Kick ass GLQuake/Markus Madness - 2:32 AM
Before I post any demos I would like to mention
The Unofficial GLQuake Project. With the release of Quake's
source the author of this project has implemented bump mapping, torch flares, incredibly smoothed out models (fire the supernailgun!), OpenGL fog, and much more. It is a work in progress (and please don't speed run using it) but well worth a look, now for the demos. By the way, the FOV command now works perfectly.
Markus Taipale continues to amaze me (and make me wonder just what the f**k he's smoking).
- He improved Yonatan's prized Easy run of E1M5 by 1 second to get 0:17.
- He improved Ilkka's Nightmare run of E1M7 by 4 seconds to get 0:29.
- And he improved his Nightmare run of E4M4 by 1 second to get 0:22.
Justin Fleck claims to be "in the running m00d" and it shows with his latest foray into custom table fillings.
Attila Csernyik & Peter Horvath are still running!
- Easy coop run of E3M5 in 0:35 improving Ravage and Shine's demo by 1 second.
Finally, our good friend Marlo Galinski has done 2 new marathons.
- Easy run of Episode 3 in 3:20 improving his previous time by 2 seconds.
- Easy 100% of Episode 4 in 15:18.
Well SDA is going strong again! Good proof of that is, well, Nolan's updating (something must be going right). There has been some talk about adding a new custom map every week (during that duration it will be good competition) so keep checking back!

New marathons from Optic - 1:05 AM
Optic made two new marathon demos recently:
- He improved his Nightmare 100% of episode 3 by 2:16 to get 14:44.
- He ran through all of Quake on Nightmare and got a time of 26:25.
Since nobody had yet made marathon runs through episodes 2, 3 or 4 on nightmare skill,
Optic's run through the whole game could be broken up to be the records for those
as well.... but I don't feel like doing that right now :) It would be nice
if someone recorded them individually though...
More demos tomorrow!

Jozsef wants a piece - 2:22 PM
My oldest and most prized demo was improved by a few bunnies so I found a new jump to improve Jozsef's E2M6 by 2 seconds.
- Easy run of E2M6 in 1:16 - My first demo in quite some time so I said hi to everyone :)
There have been two updates today so I doubt there are any other demos. I'm still receiving my mail (I'm on 28.8) so if there are, I will update again.

Mexx6 100% - starring Alexander & Marlo - 7:40 PM
Back when the sdaincoming was launched a couple of months ago, there was an interesting "Mexx6 100% contest" between Alexander and Marlo. It all started when Alexander beat Marlo's 2:43 by 10 seconds on easy skill. The following times were these:
- Marlo 2:29; Alexander 2:26; Marlo 2:25; Alexander 2:22; Marlo 2:18 and finally, Alexander 2:14 - the quality is quite good I'd say...
- The two had a smaller "contest" on Nightmare skill too. The times: Alexander 2:48; Marlo 2:43; Alexander 2:39 - Marlo, have you already given up? :)
Another demo that we've forgot to mention is Shine's marathon in E2:
- Easy run of Episode 2 in 4:04 - 25(!) seconds faster than Kimmo.
As you see, this was a really short update. We'll be back soon with a couple of ID records and some custom map coops!
(Fileplanet is still down, but you can d/l the demos e.g. from cdrom.com or from Sunet.)
Sunday, February 27 by Nolan
Five new demos - 2:05 AM
I got the demo that I mentioned in my last update good enough so here it is:
- Nightmare 100% of Hip1M1 in 1:43 - 19 seconds faster than my July 97 keyboard demo.
Expect more demos from me, I can't say how many though...
Optic fills zer4
Optic decided to fill the three blanks in the tables for zer4. Are you going
to fill the whole zerstorer table Optic? I dare ya :)
- Nightmare run of zer4 in 1:49.
- Easy 100% of zer4 in 2:42.
- Nightmare 100% of zer4 in 3:11.
- He also through in a new Nightmare 100% of of pse3b in 1:44.
If there are any demos that people sent to sda during its downtime that haven't
been mentioned in the news or added to the tables, please email us to let us
now. Don't re-send the demos though unless it ends up that we don't have them.
Fileplanet woes
Fileplanet decided to blow up earlier tonight, it's been down for over an hour
as I write this update. I can't say when it will work again since gamespy's
status page isn't even acknowledging it being down. This shouldn't prevent
you from getting the new demos from ftp.cdrom.com
though.

Missing e4m8 demos - 2:30 AM
Hey I haven't updated this site in like 10 months I don't think,
but since just about everyone else is way too busy to work on it (one of the
reasons why it was down so long) I decided to start taking an active role in
it again. Not much to this update except this notice and that I'm also going
to try to record new demos myself. I've already improved one of my old
keyboard demos but it's not good enough yet :)
Ilkka forgot Thomas's e4m8 demos on his last update, so here they are:
- Easy 100% of e4m8 in 3:56 - 24 seconds faster than his previous record.
- Nightmare 100% of e4m8 in 6:26 - 31 seconds faster than his previous record.
There are custom level demos that need updated as well but I dont know when
they will get updated though.

Speedruns - that's what this site is about - 11:01 PM
Phew, this is quite a long update: total 26 demos, of which five are marathons. It'll probably take a while before all the new records will be shown in the tables, hopefully soon. Anyway, onto the demos...
ExMx 100% -records in danger: Thomas alert
Thomas Stubgaard proves his skills by doing a massive amount of new records for ID levels. He has improved the old ID 100%s with an incredible pace:
- Nightmare 100% of E2M4 in 2:40 - seven seconds faster than his previous record.
- Easy 100% of E2M6 in 4:26 - five seconds faster than his previous record. (oh btw, I made a mistake on my last update. Thomas' demo e2m6_431 was recorded on easy skill, not nightmare)
- Easy 100% of E4M4 in 2:14 - two seconds faster than Optic's demo.
- Nightmare 100% of E4M4 in 3:28 - 29(!) seconds faster than Nolan's demo.
- Nightmare 100% of E4M5 in 2:37 - 51(!) seconds faster than Nolan's '97 demo . Plenty of quads here :)
- Easy 100% of E4M6 in 2:00 - nine seconds faster than Nolan's demo.
- Nightmare 100% of E4M6 in 3:20 - 42(!) seconds faster than Nolan's '97 demo. Thomas seems to be a bit irritated in the .txt: "If I just had cowboy-aim like Peter.......". Heh, I liked that part :)
- Nightmare 100% of E4M7 in 3:48 - 64(!) seconds faster than Nolan's '97 demo. Nolan's demo was actually the most ancient demo. It's dated all the way back to 23.05.97 - that's over 2½ years!
Other single-level speedruns
Then to the other players. A newcomer, Jozsef Szalontai, has improved both runs of E2M6. Welcome to the team Joe :)
- Easy run in 1:18 - three seconds faster Evan's ancient demo.
- Nightmare run in 1:17 - 10 seconds faster than Optic's old demo, with a new trick!
Attila has produced three demos:
- Nightmare run of E3M2 in 0:24 - another one second-improvement over his previous record. Ah, this trick really is a cool one!
- Easy run of Doom2_04 in 0:25 - two seconds faster than Yonatan.
- Easy run of Evilpool in 0:07 - one second faster than Optic.
Optic has recorded three demos as well:
- Easy run of Mexx3 in 1:11 - one second faster than Carl.
- Easy run of Colony in 0:31 - three seconds faster than Johan Nilsson.
- Nightmare run of Colony in 0:31 - new.
Stefan fills the Dissolution tables with another two demos:
- Nightmare run of R1M7 in 3:11 - new.
- Nightmare run of R2M1 in 3:57 - new. (link is temporarily broken)
Tim Doherty improved his previous record in R2M4:
- Easy 100% in 6:32 - 29 seconds faster than his previous record.
I've also improved a couple of my old records:
- Easy run of Hip1m4 in 0:56 - one second faster than my previous record. Now there's a new trick here that you _must_ take a look at! :)
- Easy 100% of Evilworld in 1:28 - 16 seconds faster than my previous record.
Last but not least: The Marathons
The most hardcore playing style, marathon running, is still in many players' interests, as a lot of those multi-level-recordings have been recorded during the last months.
First of all, Shine improved Markus' (!) Episode 1 easy run by four seconds:
- Easy run of Episode 1 in 2:44 - a four-second improvement. I like the way Shine plays E1M4 :)
Marlo has done a Marathon too:
- Easy run of Episode 3 in 3:22 - three seconds faster than Peter. Most of the quality tricks included.
Tim Doherty seems to love the Dissolution levels. He has recorded...
- ... Easy 100% of Roque Ep1 in 27:08 - some 8 minutes faster than his old one.
- Easy 100% of Roque Ep2 in 40:40 - new.
Fabian visited Mattias in Sweden some months ago and they made a coop marathon:
- Easy 100% of Episode 3 in 7:13 - new.
Finally, rumours say that someone has completed Quake on Nightmare skill killing all the monsters and getting all the secrets. Another rumour says that the same thing is completed on easy skill as well. We'll see if they're true...

What the heck is going on at this site? - 1:23 AM
As all these incomprehensible server problems seem to last forever, we've decided
to switch to "manual updates" temporarily. You may start sending your demos to sda
again (we won't use the sdaincoming system any longer).
Stefan Schwoon has done a massive job: he has created the new tablescripts and fixed the tables to match the
state-of-the-art records. All the records and demos can be downloaded
here, thanks Stefan.
I tried to recover some demos from the sdaincoming dir and I'll upload the ones I have on my HD. As there were
loads of other demos in the directory before it totally dissapeared, I can't upload them all. Therefore, please
e-mail the demos that you can't see in this update and that you
already uploaded to sdaincoming, thanks. Sorry for all the mess.
Finally, some demos
The demos in this update are mostly for ID levels, and some of them are even months late. Once again, sorry for the delays...
Fabian Kollakowski managed to improve Peter's record in E1M1:
- Easy 100% in 0:54 - A two-second improvement. This demo is a result of lots of playing: Fabian said he got 0:55 relatively easy, but had to work hard for a 0:54. A must download!
Thomas Stubgaard has done lots of really impressive demos:
- Nightmare 100% of E2M4 in 2:47 - 19 seconds faster than Nolan. This is also 10 seconds faster than the old Quake Done 100% Quick.
- Nightmare 100% of E2M5 in 2:28 - Yet 13 seconds faster than his previous record. Thomas has improved this record for many times and I must say he has gotten pretty damn good in it. Twelve seconds faster than Qd100Q.
- Easy 100% of E2M6 in 4:31 - 31(!) seconds faster than Will.
- Easy 100% of E4M8 in 4:20 - 18 seconds faster than Nolan's old record.
- Nightmare 100% of E4M8 in 6:57 - 163(!) seconds faster than Nolan's ancient record. Thomas managed to get 83/88 kills which is two more than Nolan did in his demo. Can anyone kill 'em all? :)
Markus Taipale improved his previous record in E2M5:
- Easy run in 0:29 - A two-second improvement. Must be close to optimized...
That's all the demos for this update. More will be up soon now that things (hopefully) get rolling on again. Oh almost forgot, there's a new contest at my site
Mineral's, go check it out. The deadline is 26th this month.
